9 Schools of the Bujinkan

PostAuthorIconWritten by Administrator

Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi is the grandmaster of the martial art called Budo Taijutsu. The organization that oversees this martial art is called the Bujinkan.

Budo Taijutsu is not a single martial art, but integrates 9 different martial arts that Hatsumi-sensei inherited from his teacher, Toshitsugu Takamatsu. Each of these martial arts has its own tradition and methods. By bringing them under a single integrated martial art, Hatsumi-sensei has not only preserved these traditional arts, but created something even more significant: Budo Taijutsu.

The 9 schools that comprise Budo Taijutsu:

Gyokko-ryū Kosshijutsu 玉虎流骨指術 (Jewel Tiger School)

Kotō-ryū Koppōjutsu

Shinden Fudo-Ryu Taijutsu

Kuki Shinden Happō Bikenjutsu

Takagi Yōshin-ryū Jūtaijutsu

Togakure-Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu

Kumogakure-ryū Ninpō

Gyokushin-ryū Ninpō

Gikan-ryū Koppōjutsu
